Zepbound® (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable that mimics two hormones — GLP-1 and GIP — for powerful, dual-action weight loss. Prescribed online by licensed physicians and shipped to your door.
Brand-name tirzepatide · Once-weekly injectable
Zepbound® is the brand name for tirzepatide prescribed specifically for chronic weight management. It mimics two naturally occurring gut hormones — GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide). Together these hormones work on both the gut and the brain to regulate appetite and food intake.
Because Zepbound® targets two hormone pathways rather than one, it produces some of the largest average weight-loss results seen in clinical trials to date. It received FDA approval for weight management in adults with obesity, or who are overweight with at least one weight-related condition, in 2023.
Most weight-loss medications act on a single hormone. Zepbound® is first-of-its-kind because it mimics two — producing a combined effect on appetite and digestion.
By mimicking GLP-1, Zepbound® acts on hunger centers in the brain so you feel less hungry and more satisfied between meals.
It slows the rate at which your stomach empties, helping you feel full longer after eating and reducing the urge to snack.
The second hormone, GIP, complements GLP-1 to enhance the body's response — the dual effect linked to greater average weight loss.
Tirzepatide improves how the body manages blood sugar and insulin, supporting healthier metabolic markers alongside weight loss.
All Zepbound® formats are FDA-approved, available in the same doses, and have the same efficacy and side-effect profile. The difference is how they're delivered and how they're paid for.
Prefilled auto-injector · 1 dose
A prefilled, single-use auto-injector pen containing one weekly dose. Simple click-and-inject design with no separate needle to manage — ideal for most patients getting started.
Vial + syringe · 1 dose
A single-dose vial administered with a separate needle and syringe. Shipped directly through LillyDirect® and typically the lowest-cost way to access brand-name Zepbound®.
Multi-dose auto-injector · 4 doses
The newest all-in-one prefilled auto-injector pen holding four weekly doses. Fewer devices to store and carry — a convenient option for established patients.
Your physician will recommend the right format based on your dose, budget, and insurance during your free evaluation.
Zepbound® is titrated slowly to help your body adjust and to minimize side effects. You start low and your physician increases the dose roughly every four weeks, as tolerated.
The 2.5 mg starting dose is for beginning treatment, not for ongoing weight management. Maintenance doses are 5 mg, 10 mg, or 15 mg. Not everyone reaches the maximum dose — your physician will find the lowest effective dose for you and may pause or adjust steps based on how you respond. Always follow your prescriber's instructions.
Zepbound® was studied in large, multi-week clinical trials. These are the headline results — individual outcomes vary.
In a 72-week trial (SURMOUNT-1) of the 15 mg dose, eligible patients without diabetes lost an average of about 21% of their body weight (roughly 48 lbs) when Zepbound® was combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Beyond weight management, the FDA has also approved Zepbound® to treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults with obesity — making it the first medication of its kind cleared for this use.
* Based on the SURMOUNT-1 pivotal clinical trial. Results combine medication with diet and exercise. Individual results vary based on dose, adherence, and health history.

Clinical trials paired the medication with diet and activity for a reason. These habits help protect muscle, ease side effects, and support lasting results.
Aim for protein at each meal to help preserve muscle while you lose fat, and to stay satisfied on a smaller appetite.
Combine regular movement with strength training. Resistance work is especially important for maintaining lean mass.
Plenty of water and fiber-rich foods help manage common digestive side effects like constipation.
Consistent, quality sleep supports appetite regulation and recovery — and complements the medication's effects.
Ongoing check-ins and community make the journey feel less isolating and help you stay consistent.
Build habits you can keep. Lasting results come from pairing medication with sustainable lifestyle change.
Most patients tolerate Zepbound® well. Side effects are typically mild, most common at the start of treatment or after dose increases, and improve as your body adjusts.
Most common at the start or after dose increases. Usually mild and eases within a few weeks. Smaller meals help.

Rapid weight loss can raise gallstone risk. Report severe upper-abdominal pain, fever, or jaundice promptly.
Very rare but serious. Stop the medication and contact your physician immediately if you have severe, persistent abdominal pain.

Clear answers to the most common questions about Zepbound®, tirzepatide, and our telemedicine program.
Both contain the same active ingredient, tirzepatide. Mounjaro® is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes, while Zepbound® is FDA-approved specifically for chronic weight management (and, more recently, for obstructive sleep apnea).
Semaglutide targets one hormone receptor (GLP-1). Zepbound® targets two (GLP-1 and GIP). This dual action is linked to greater average weight loss in trials — up to ~21% versus ~15% — though the right choice depends on your health profile.
Single-dose pens are the most flexible and are insurance-eligible. Vials and the KwikPen® are cash-pay only, often at a lower price point. Your physician will recommend the best fit for your dose and budget.
Single-dose pens may be covered by commercial insurance, and our coordinators will work with your plan. Vials and the KwikPen® are cash-pay only. Government-sponsored plans typically require a cash-pay option.
Most patients notice reduced appetite within the first 1–2 weeks. Meaningful weight loss typically becomes visible at 4–8 weeks, with maximum results usually seen over 12–18 months of consistent treatment.
Research suggests many patients regain weight after stopping, since the medication controls hunger signals. That's why ongoing lifestyle changes alongside treatment matter — your physician will help build a long-term plan.
Zepbound® is most effective when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity — that's how it was studied in trials. Your physician will help you create a sustainable plan alongside the medication.
Evaluations are conducted via secure video or an asynchronous questionnaire, depending on your state and preference. All visits are HIPAA-compliant and conducted by licensed physicians.
